Qld: Six MPs set to retire
Queensland taxpayers could face a superannuation bill of around $6 million for sixveteran MPs who have confirmed their retirement at the next election.
Transport Minister STEVE BREDHAUER and Employment, Training and Arts Minister MATTFOLEY today became the latest to say they won't contest the next poll, due by May nextyear.
Others who'll be retiring are Health Minister WENDY EDMOND, former Liberal leader JOANSHELDON, another former Liberal leader DAVID WATSON and former National Party ministerVINCE LESTER.
The MPs -- most of whom have served since 1989 -- can expect annual pensions of between$80,000 and $99,000 or take lump sums of up to $1 million.
Mr FOLEY says it's rubbish to suggest politicians' superannuation is too generous.
