Qld: Gabriel parents fail to show in court
The parents of mentally-ill killer CLAUDE GABRIEL have failed to appear in court in Brisbane.
Duty solicitor CAROLINE WALTERS told the Inala Magistrates Court that JOHN GABRIELis in a Melbourne hospital with pneumonia while his wife ALESSANDRA is suffering stress.
She said the couple is not well enough to travel to Brisbane or to instruct legal representativeS.
Magistrate LACHLAN JOHNSTONE adjourned the matter to May 22.
Mr and Mrs GABRIEL are charged with helping their 26-year-old son CLAUDE flee Brisbane.
CLAUDE GABRIEL escaped from John Oxley psychiatric hospital last November after beingfound mentally unfit to stand trial for the stabbing murder of 17-year-old JANAYA CLARKEin 1998.
He fled to Victoria, then went to Italy before settling in New Zealand, where he wastaken into custody last week.
