Peptide libraries--an enabling tool for screening applications: high throughput screening of peptide libraries is now affordable.(Biochemicals & Kits)

Peptide libraries have long been shunned as drug discovery tools, as production costs were often prohibitive and development tools, such as public databases or algorithms for epitope mapping, were not readily available.

These limitations have been overcome, and screening of peptide libraries is now affordable. This article summarizes examples in which peptide libraries (1) have been used in enzymatic substrate screening, and in vaccine and gene therapy research.

High throughput screening of peptide substrates for tyrosine kinases(2)

Protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs) are involved in a variety of signaling pathways, such as those regulating cell proliferation, differentiation and death. Identifying the substrates of kinases is of prime importance in understanding cellular machinery.

Potential substrates for a range of 39 pharmaceutically relevant PTKs were identified using public databases (Phospho.ELM and Phosphosite). The output sequences were optimized to generate 13-mer peptides covering the potential phosphorylation sites, …
